5 TIPS TO TRAIN YOUR DOG AND GET HIM TO OBEY THE FIRST TIME

Abigail Carruthers, January 3, 2024

Train your pet from a puppy, be constant and firm and, above all, keep in mind these mistakes that you should avoid when training your Dog trainer spring Texas.

Although you can teach a dog almost anything, as long as you have the necessary experience or knowledge, despite our efforts and countless trips to training classes, some dogs still have trouble with simple commands like “sit.” or “quiet”.

The American Kennel Club (AKC) has revealed five of the most common training mistakes to avoid that can lead to bad habits. These missteps can influence the success or failure of your training.

1. HOW TO TRAIN A DOG AT HOME
A class or training session once a week is not enough time for your dog to be well-trained. Therefore, it is necessary to practice what you learned in class with your pet at home and, above all, it is especially important during daily walks.

It is best to practice every day, but for short periods. Dogs have the mentality of a small child and, like them, their attention span can be short. For most puppies, you will have more success with sessions that are no longer than 5 or 10 minutes. And don’t forget to have treats or some toys for your pet at home, as well as the appropriate material to carry out the necessary work.

2. HOW TO MAKE THE DOG OBEY
Provoke positive situations, instead of ordering your pet to do things it doesn’t like, such as going to bathe, it is good advice to teach it to obey.

If you call your dog to perform the bathing ritual, he will surely come, but it is possible that, the next day, the furry dog will hesitate when you say “come.” It may also be that your dog does not even respond to your call. Therefore, when you start training you must avoid, as far as possible, using orders related to things or actions that are not to his liking.

3. WHEN TO START TRAINING A DOG
Forget to do this when you are in a bad mood or in a hurry, but also keep in mind if your dog is frustrated or sick. Even though you are instilling productive patterns in your dog, training should still be a fun bonding experience between you and your pet.

Trying to train when you or your dog is in a bad mood or feeling frustrated can backfire and even make them think that training is a negative activity.
